I'm looking for more information about this rhythm and about the album by Mamadou Keita with the same name. PM's are okay.

Re: A Giate
Mon, January 22, 2007 - 1:48 PMMamady Keita's A Giate....it's probably his most underrated album.
He invited musicians of various ethnic groups to his compound in Guinea to record an album of each groups tradtional songs and rhythms: Manian, Guerze, Sousou, Peul (Fula), and his own Malinke (a Baga group was supposed to come but couldn't at the last minute).
on this album, they play a few 'popular' rhythms (Kuku, Mane) with their traditional instrumentation with the djembe being the lead instrument or just and accompaniement.
A giate is a sousou song/rhythm played with balaphon, bote, and dunun. i'll check the liner notes when i get home to see what it's played for.
